754 Reading Reflection #1
Being a school librarian causes a whittling of age groups. The programming sector is dictated by the age group that the school addresses. Being a mother also has allowed experiences of the various development levels people move through that the reading covered. The readings and infographics were very informative and seemed to mirror the many experiences my personal children as well as past students I have worked with.
Even with the discovery of object permanence and creative play for the younger crew and need for boundaries with the middle (CDC, 2021) one thing remained true through all of the information offered could best be summed up with Kuhls information that the human interaction was a necessary piece for any absorption of information (2011). Something so simple as human interaction parent to child, teacher to child, or child to child is a must when learning takes place.
As a librarian, interaction will be integral to successful programming. Providing diverse programming that not only will capitalize on my strengths of storytelling and voices but also provides peer to peer and parent interaction will ensure that information becomes a part of the student. Having a human element will be important to even the passive lessons.
In the wake of Covid and almost everything going to virtual we as a society have seen how much human connection is powerful. Chase discusses the importance of his interaction with others and the importance of listening and talking to others. The idea of simply creating and sustaining relationships had the most powerful impact. This will be my goal in programming.
Given this deceptively simple idea (even though it was confirmed in ALL of the readings). I started to research the idea of collaborative learning and human and found other broad overview in the Encyclopedia of Sciences of Learning.
